A young man died yesterday after being beaten by villagers of Khadak Municipality in the Saptari district. The deceased has been identified as Santlal Paswan, 27, of Khadak-4 Pansera. Police said that Dilip Chaudhary, a local, was arrested among the accused.
The incident is being seriously investigated and other absconding accused are being sought, said Superintendent of Police, District Police Office, Saptari, Avinarayan Kafle. According to the locals, a fight broke out between the two parties regarding the music and dance at a wedding on Monday night. According to the family members of the victim, the accused returned with a gang late at night and beat Santalal up.
Paswan sustained serious injuries in various parts of his body due to the beating and was undergoing treatment at Nobel Hospital in Biratnagar when the doctor pronounced him dead. The villagers staged a half-hour traffic jam at Amaha Chowk on the East-West Highway demanding strict action against the accused. An autopsy of the deceased has been conducted at Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar today. Family members of the deceased Chhatish Lal Paswan said that preparations were being made to bring the body to the village.
