Ministers discussion on citizenship bill

Home Minister Balkrishna Khand and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Gobinda Prasad Sharma, have held discussions with the deputy leader of the parliamentary party of major opposition UML, Subash Chandra Nembang, on the bill designed to amend Nepali Citizenship Act, 2063.

Home Minister Khand informed that the discussion held at leader Nembang's residence, Baluwatar, dwelt on the bill relating to citizenship. He further said leader Nembang was urged to extend cooperation to pass the bill.

In response, leader Nembang said UML was positive about the bill relating to an amendment to Citizenship Act, but it was yet to observe the points included in the bill.

The bill designed to amend the Nepali Citizenship Act, 2063 was registered in the House of Representatives on August 7, 2018. Again, on June 23, 2020, the State Affairs Committee presented the bill in the parliament along with its report.

The bill is expected to address the citizenship problems.
