A student of Prakash Secondary School in Beni of Myagdi has broken his ribs due to the beating of a teacher.
17-year-old Rajan Poudel, who is studying in class 10, has broken his ribs after being beaten by accounting teacher Nabin Ghimire. Teacher Ghimire said that Poudel had hit him on the head and back with a pipe in the classroom. "Sir hit me with a pipe for no reason. He didn't even bother to go to the office and talk," he said. According to Poudel, Krishna Tamang, Nishan Garbuja, Rupesh Bohora, and Bipan Purja were also severely beaten by Ghimire on Friday afternoon.
An X-ray and medical examination were conducted at Beni Hospital on Saturday evening after Poudel started vomiting, not eating, had shortness of breath, and increased pain. Poudel's sister, Mankumari Subedi, said that his head was swollen so he was taken to Pokhara on Saturday night and CT-scanned at Kaligandaki Diagnostic and Research Center.
"Doctors at Beni Hospital confirmed that the ribs were broken and gave him rest and medicine," she said. Poudel's father Bhim Prasad Poudel has filed a petition at the school today demanding action against the teacher for torturing the child in a manner that would have a psychological effect on him. Poudel had been studying at Prakash Secondary School for three years.
On behalf of the school, Principal Lekh Bahadur Hamal called Poudel's sister for information over the phone on Saturday morning and had called for a discussion today. "The class was held till 5 o'clock on Friday. The punishing teacher's class period was from 12.10 pm to 12.50 pm. Rajan had studied in all classes that day. After 12:50, the subject teachers had said that his health condition was normal,” she said, "We are looking into the issue further.”
