Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Sunday reported 7,316 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 455,020. Additionally, 52 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.
Likewise, the Health Ministry has also recorded 145 deaths from COVID-19 including the data from COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC) and Nepali Army's dead body management statistics in the past 24 hours. As of Sunday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 5,001. The ministry had reported 225 deaths, the highest daily numbers, on Tuesday. Presently, there are 110,263 active cases in Nepal.
Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 2,609 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu registered 1,881 cases, Lalitpur 436 cases and Bhaktapur registered 292 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.
As many as 6,648 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Sunday, a total of 339,756 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 74.7 per cent.
As of Sunday, a total of 2,771,020 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 110,263 persons staying in isolation while 701 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.
More than 162.57 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 3,510,096 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December, a Reuters tally showed as of 04:01 pm, on Sunday, May 16, 2021.
The World Health Organisation referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
