Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has asserted that it was an important matter to recommend a candidate for the appointment of Chief Justice and the matter will be discussed and a conclusion would be reached very soon.

In a meeting with the delegation of the Nepal Bar Association led by Association's Chairperson Gopal Krishna Ghimire at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar, Kathmandu on Tuesday, PM Dahal asserted that the matter relating to the recommendation of a candidate for the Chief Justice was a serious issue and conclusion on the same would be made soon.

Bar's Chairperson Ghimire demanded with the PM to take forward the recommendation process for the appointment of Chief Justice.

According to him, the seat of Chief Justice lying vacant in the Supreme Court and vacant seats of Justices in the High Courts had adversely affected the justice delivery process.

Hence, he shared that his delegation appealed to the PM to conclude the process of appointing the Chief Justice and Justices very soon.

Ghimire shared that they demanded the earliest appointment of the Chief Justice since the judiciary was functioning for over a year under the Acting Chief Justice.

The Acting Chief Justice has been assuming the Supreme Court's responsibilities since February 13, 2022, to date while High Courts in many districts have been functioning in the strength of Acting Justices.
