PM Deuba leaves for UK to participate in COP26

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has left for the United Kingdom today leading the Nepali delegation to the World leaders Summit of the 26th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).

The COP26 is taking place in Glasgow of the United Kingdom from October 31-November 12.

Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, and Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Prem Bahadur Ale, bade farewell to Prime Minister Deuba at the VIP lounge of the Tribhuvan International Airport.

Similarly, Nepali Congress Vice-President Bimalendra Nidhi, Joint General Secretary Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi, high-ranking officials of the government, and chiefs of security bodies had also reached TIA to see off the PM.

Prime Minister Deuba will participate in the formal inauguration of COP26 on November 1 and he on the behalf of Nepal is scheduled to address the World Leaders Summit. Similarly, PM Deuba will attend the welcome ceremony reception to be hosted by the UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson in honor of the participating Heads of the State and Governments on the same day.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Deuba is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Heads of State and Government as well as other senior dignitaries.

According to the Foreign Ministry, PM Deuba will attend a breakfast reception to be hosted by Prime Minister Johnson and the First minister of Scotland for select Heads of State and Governments on November 2.

While in Britain, PM Deuba on 30th October will attend and address the welcome event being hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Nepal (APPG-N) and UK-Nepal Trade and Investment Forum in London.

The Prime Minister will receive the representatives of Britain-Nepal Society, Non-Residential Nepali Association and representatives of the Nepali community residing in the UK.

On the 31st of October, the Prime Minister will attend a reception hosted in his honor by the Chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of Nepal in London.

He will meet with the representatives of the Gurkha Veterans’ organization, members of British Parliament and other members of Nepali diaspora.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh on the 3rd of November 2021 and address a gathering there. He will plant a sapling in the Nepali Garden.

Prime Minister is accompanied by Minister for Forests and Environment, Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Foreign Affairs Ministry Secretary Bharat Raj Poudyal, Secretary at the Ministry of Forests and Environment, Dr Prem Narayan Kandel, Finance Secretary Madhu Kumar Marasini, Home Ministry Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, National Planning Commission (NPC) Secretary Kebal Prasad Bhandari, Chair of the National Trust for Nature Conservation, Dr Madhav Bahadur Karki.

The Prime Minister will return from the UK on the 3rd of November and arrive in Kathmandu on the morning of the 4th of November 2021.
