'Representatives should actively work for human development': Chairman Timilsina

Chairman of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina has said that the people's representatives should be active in the field of human development.

 Inaugurating an interaction program on 'Health Risk Communication and Community Participation' organized by the Ministry of Health and Population here today, he stressed the need of raising public awareness in the society on health, education, child mortality and reduction of maternal mortality.

 Stating that Nepal has had commendable discussions in the world forum on covid prevention, control and vaccination, he said that there is still a lot to be done in the field of public health protection even though the risk has ended in the current situation. Chairman Timilsina urged the people's representatives to conduct public awareness campaign by changing the diet and culture to prevent the people from getting sick.

 He suggested that the people's representatives should express their commitment to fulfilling the desire of maintaining development and prosperity, pointing out the need for the parties to select candidates on the basis of capacity.

State No. 1 Speaker Pradip Kumar Bhandari stressed the need to play the role of facilitator to end the risk of public representation and expressed confidence that the program would be result-oriented.

Minister for Health of Province No. 1 Jayaram Yadav said that the full vaccination program would be successful in the province with the active participation of all. Dr Rajesh Sambhajirao Pandav, Head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Nepal, stressed the need to use the latest technology for the control and prevention of outbreaks.

 Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population Dr Sangeeta Kaushal Mishra said that 105 covid testing laboratories and 397,16,798 people have been vaccinated against covid in the country. The objective of the program is to make public health disaster and epidemic prevention and control through risk communication and community participation to make its response plan operational in case of emergency/disaster and to prevent the crisis in advance.

 The interaction was attended by the Ministry of Health and Population, the Ministry of Provincial Health, members of the Provincial Assembly, representatives of the World Health Organization and physicians.
