With the onset of summer, the number of snake bite patients has started increasing in the Terai district. The number of snake bite patients has increased in the summer as snakes go out to warm up and thus, bite people. Although about 800 patients come to the center every year and five percent of them need ICU and ventilator, the equipment is out of use due to the negligence of the concerned bodies, said Dr. Hans Narayan Jha of the center. According to him, even though they can use ICU and ventilator, they have not been able to use ICU and ventilator due to busy schedule and the committee has financial shortage to keep the manpower for that.

According to the center, 40 snake bite patients have come for treatment in June alone. Last April, 64 patients were treated. According to Uddhav Poudel, chairman of the management committee of the center, the equipment has been out of use for a long time due to lack of personnel to operate the center.

Man Bahadur Moktan, a snake bite patient, said that there was no point in keeping or not keeping the equipment in operation even though the local bodies were providing good assistance. Hari Bahadur Bhattarai, Ward Chairman of Lalbandi Municipality-1, said that the ICU and ventilator have been provided at the center with the help of the Madhesh Pradesh government.
