UML endorses party's statute amendment proposal

The Standing Committee meeting of CPN UML today endorsed the party's statute amendment proposal.

The meeting took place at the Lalitpur-based Tulsi Lal Memorial Foundation passed the document, according to party Vice-Chair Bamdev Gautam. The proposal was prepared by statute amendment draft taskforce coordinated by party Deputy General Secretary and Organisation Department Chief, Bishnu Prasad Poudel.

CPN UML Office Secretary Sher Bahadur Tamang said the endorsed document would be presented to the Central Committee meeting. The document has proposed doing away with the provisions of politburo member and alternative central member and going with the provisions of office-bearer, standing committee member, and central member.

Besides, the taskforce has proposed the provision of choosing party office-bearers except for the chair and general secretary by central members elected by the General Convention.

Similarly, it has proposed to increase the number of central members. The 225-member Central Committee has been proposed, according to him. More, the taskforce has presented the idea of downsizing the number of vice-chairs and increasing the number of secretaries.

The CC meeting is also expected to endorse the proposal which advises giving executive rights to the Province Committee. The proposal will come into effect once the Central Committee endorses it.
