The Election Commission (EC) has sought clarifications from CPN (UML)’s candidate for the election to the Member of the House of Representatives from Taplejung, Yogesh Bhattarai and CPN (Maoist Center)’s candidate for HoR election from Kanchanpur-1, Bina Magar, for ‘violating’ the election code of conduct.

The two were asked to submit clarifications for accompanying by more than 25 people during the home visit programme under the election publicity campaign.

The code of conduct does not entertain the election candidate to be accompanied by people numbering more than 25 during the registration of nomination or the home visit programme for the purpose of election publicity.

As the EC said, candidate Bhattarai who is also the UML Secretary is alleged to have created a gathering of more than 25 people at Sikaicha in Sirijunga rural municipality that lies under his constituency and he also publicized it in his Facebook page.

Likewise, the EC received the complaint that Maoist leader Magar took over 25 people along with her during the election publicity campaign in Belauri municipality. The leaders have been asked to clarify whether their moves are not in contravention to the election code of conduct.
