Former Minister Thapa loses NA by-election

Former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, who was a candidate of the CPN UML, has lost the by-election to the vacant seat of the National Assembly of Bagmati Province. He was defeated by Dr Khimlal Devkota.

Devkota was the candidate of an alliance of Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre) and the CPN UML faction of Madhav Kumar Nepal.

According to Spokesperson of the Election Commission, Raj Kumar Shrestha, a total of 338 members cast their votes today. He had also mentioned earlier that the by-election had concluded in a peaceful manner.

The voting had taken place at the polling centre set up in Bhutandevi Higher Secondary School in Hetauda Sub-metropolis-4.
