Security agencies directed to prepare for elections

The Home Ministry has directed all security agencies to start preparing for the upcoming general elections scheduled for April 30 and May 10. A meeting held under the chairmanship of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa today directed all the three security agencies to prepare for the elections.

Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel, Home and Finance Secretaries, and Heads of all the three security agencies were present on the occasion. 

At the meeting, the head of the security agencies tabled a preliminary outline of resources and management essential for the elections. 

Finance Minister Poudel urged the security agencies to propose an election budget through the home ministry by analyzing the expenses incurred during the past elections and considering cost-effectiveness. He expressed the commitment to not allow budget crunch for the elections, according to a statement issued by the Home Ministry here today.

In the statement, the Ministry also urged all political parties involved in democratic practice and other stakeholders to organize their activities peacefully, in the wake up to the elections.
