Sanu Sherpa awarded by Tourism minister

Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has honored Sanu Sherpa who succeeded in setting a record as the world's first climber who climbed 14 mountains above 8,000 meters.

Minister of Tourism Jeevanram Shrestha honored the Sherpas of Sankhuwasabha, Makalu Rural Municipality, who made Nepal known to the world.  On that occasion, Minister Shrestha said that Sherpa's work is a source of inspiration for the current generation of climbers. He also expressed his belief that it will have a positive effect on the promotion of Nepal's mountain tourism in the world.

On the occasion of the 43rd World Tourism Day, the ministry also honored the climbing Sherpa on October 11th.

Nima Nuru Sherpa, President of Nepal Mountaineering Association, complained that the Nepali mass media gives less priority to the issue of mountain climbing.
