Presentation of Harmony of Traditions

Jayashree Music Society organized Harmony of Traditions program in Kathmandu. A live concert of traditional Dafa and Eastern Melodies of Kathmandu Valley was held at the National Theater. Dafa is a group of hymns performed by the Newari community in Kathmandu Valley. Organizers said that the concert was organized with the aim of preserving and promoting traditional music.

Dafa is an ancient model of devotional music. There are Dafa groups in various places. Different glimpses of Newari culture were also presented in the background of Dafa devotional music.

 In Hindu tradition Lord Ganesh is worshiped first. In the program, Rakta Ganesh dance was presented and the artists showed how Lord Ganesh was worshiped on different occasions.

 In the second part of the same program, sarod Maestro Sureshraj Bajracharya and sitarist Bijay Shrestha gave their best performances.

They were accompanied in an interesting manner by Lakshmi Prasad Dangol and Nimesh Kapali on tabla. Finally, all the participating artists performed fusion music.

During the ceremony, the Deputy Chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dangol, said that the city is trying to preserve the traditional music of Kathmandu and is honoring the elders involved in Dafa Bhajan. She informed that efforts are being made to recognize such traditional music from Kathmandu University.

Jayashree Music Society was formed 12 years ago under the leadership of veteran tabla player Late Rabin Lal Shrestha.
