Shrestha bags 'Bishnu-Nati Photojournalism Award'

 Naresh Shrestha, a photojournalist with 'The Himalyan Times' daily has been honoured with this year's the 'Bishnu-Nati Photo Journalism Award'.

Shrestha is in the journalism career spanning two decades.

Noted photojournalist Natikaji Maharjan established the award in his name and his spouse Bishnu Devi Maharjan. The award carries a purse of Rs 10,000.

Bagmati province minister for culture, tourism and cooperatives, Pukar Maharjan, presented the award to Shrestha amidst a programme organised by the Sirapa Guthi here today.

On the occasion, Sunita Maharjan, who has already dedicated 16 years as an instructor of Dhime baja (a traditional Newari music), was also honoured.

Province Minister Maharjan applauded the contribution of photojournalists in transforming the society, urging the State to duly acknowledge their contributions.

Sirapa Guthi founder Natikaji Maharjan stressed on the need of protection of culture to keep the history of a nation alive, adding that the award aimed to encourage photojournalists dedicated to the preservation of cultural heritage.
