In Pics: Indra jatra officially begins

Indra Jatra, the festival of rain and good harvest, begins Tuesday.

The eight-day festivity, having religious and cultural significance, is observed with much fanfare especially amid the Newar communities in the Kathmandu Valley. 

The festival begins with the erection of lingo, a sacred wooden pole, in front of Hanuman Dhoka.
