'African swine fever' has been detected in Kailali district.

At a programme organised at Livestock Disease Investigation Laboratory, Dhangadhi, on Wednesday, Chief of the Laboratory, Dr Naresh Prasad Joshi, said the African swine fever was confirmed from the test carried out on dead pigs reared at the farm of Badimalika Agro promotion Centre at Bhajani municipality-3.

"The disease was confirmed through postmortem of the pig and rapid test. Sample was collected for further test and sent to Central Veterinary Research Laboratory. The African swine fever was further confirmed on Tuesday", he shared.

High fever, vomiting, rashes in ear, tail and lower part of abdomen, abnormal breathing, among others are the symptoms of African swine fever. The disease can easily transmit from one pig to other pigs and to wild boars.

Meanwhile, the Laboratory authorities have suggested farmers to clean the pig cage regularly, to disinfect the cages using chemicals like bleaching powder and formalin.
