Emergency dialysis service in operation at Birgunj

Two persons die of coronavirus at Narayani Hospital.

The government-owned Narayani Hospital has brought the emergency dialysis service in operation.

The hospital has run the 15-bed dialysis service in coordination with the Round Table Nepal and with economic cooperation of the Siddhartha Bank.

Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr Birendra Pradhan informed that the hospital has started the service after constructing a building for Intensive Care Unit.

The patients who are receiving regular services would be treated at Emergency Dialysis Ward as per the need.

Dr Pradhan further shared that the patients having effects on kidneys due to different complications such as Pneumonia would also be provided treatment.

Those receiving emergency dialysis service should pay a certain charge but the hospital would freely provide materials required in course of dialysis, he informed. However, free service would be provided to the chronic kidney patients receiving regular dialysis service as before, he added.

It may be noted that the private hospitals are charging Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 for emergency dialysis service. The Narayani Hospital has fixed Rs 5,000 for the same.

Two beds have been allocated at emergency dialysis ward for the people with HIV infection. There are 20-22 dialysis machines in the Narayani Hospital.

Dr Pradhan said dialysis service could be provided to up to 40 patients if all the machines available at the hospital are operational during 24 hours in three shifts.

He informed that the Siddhartha Bank had provided Rs 5.5 million and other donors Rs 500,000 to bring the dialysis service into operation.
