Chitwan hosting 3rd Asian Rhino Range Countries' Meeting

Chitwan is hosting an international conference on the conservation of the one-horned rhino on February 3-5.

Senior officials from five Asian countries will join the ‘Third Rhino Range Countries Meeting’ scheduled to take place at Patihani of Chitwan.

According to the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation’s information officer Dr. Ganesh Pant, people from the relevant field in Nepal, India, Bhutan, Indonesia, and Malaysia will attend the event.

The department director-general and joint secretaries at the Ministry of Forests and Environment will be there to represent Nepal in the gathering. Field employees in the efforts to conserve the rhino will attend the event as observers.

India is home to the largest population of one-horned rhinos followed by Nepal. The meeting is expected to discuss challenges in the conservation of the animal, and come up with plans for their protection ahead.

The first gathering was held in Indonesia and the second in New Delhi, India.
