Correction centre vandalized as inmate dies

A correction centre at Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-2 in Santothimi was vandalized after mystery surrounded the death of a 21-year-old youth who was charged of put behind the bar on charge of rape.

The relatives of Kamal Basnet, 21, of Manthali in Ramechhap vandalized the correction centre after Basnet's mysterious death happened on Sunday morning.

The area remained tensed the whole day following the protests.

After Basnet's death, the men inmates and relatives of the deceased protested on Sunday demanding a fair probe, action to the culprits and compensation to the deceased's family.

However, Superintendent of Police of Bhaktapur Prajit KC said that Basnet, who fainted this morning, died while receiving treatment at Nagarik Hospital in Gaththaghar.

SP KC said that investigations are ongoing adding that Basnet's left leg had a boil and was also going through eye problems.

However, the victims have called Basnet's death as mysterious.

Likewise, a meeting of the district security committee held on Sunday has formed a probe committee led by Assistant Chief District Officer Dorendra Prasad Niraula to thoroughly investigate the issue.
