Lawmakers of the House of Representatives have stressed that priority should be given to agriculture sector for country's economic prosperity.
Taking part in discussion on budget for coming fiscal year 2080/81 in today's HoR meeting, they said attention should be paid in creating employment as well as appropriate use of local resources.
They shared that the budget should give priority to industry, agriculture, tourism, road, infrastructure development and disaster management.
The HoR members suggested adopting a policy to increase export and decrease import as well as to cut the salary of high-ranking government officials by some percentage to reduce general expenditure.
Lawmaker Madhav Sapkota mentioned that the budget should attract people towards agriculture sector.
Likewise, Bhanu Bhakta Joshi drew government's attention to cut general expenditure, saying the development budget is less and general expenditure is more in the budget.
Similarly, Abdul Khan suggested stopping leakage by setting up small customs at border points while Biraj Bhakta Shrestha viewed that the budget has failed to declare priorities of the country and commercialization of agriculture.
The HoR will meet next at 11:00 am on June 7.
