Nepali Congress leader Dr Shashanka Koirala on Saturday said people with integrity could only maintain good governance in the country.
The country will get good governance when virtuous persons reach to the executive position, he said in a discussion on the theme ‘Good governance and current situation of the country’ organised here by the Sushil Koirala Memorial Foundation on the occasion of the 84th Birth Anniversary of late NC’s former President and former Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.
“Lately, efforts are being made to present innocent people as guilty by twisting laws,” he said.
Similarly, former Chief Secretary Leelamani Paudyal commented that people’s faith in the public administration was eroding of late. “Corruption is a hindrance of good governance. Good governance cannot be maintained in the country until the end of corruption. High-ranking people should work to maintain good governance.”
Constitution expert Dr Bhimarjun Acharya said work of government bodies including the Department of Revenue Investigation and the National Vigilance Centre was being lately questioned.
Although the judiciary has been kept independent in the constitution, the situation has come wherein even justice delivery is being questioned due to political appointment in the judiciary, he said. Former minister Rewati Bhusal suggested the consolidation of democracy for maintaining good governance in the country. Also, member-secretary of the Foundation Atul Koirala pointed out significant contributions of the late former PM Sushil Koirala to the Nepali politics. ---
