Restraints by security forces prevent accidents in Bajura

Restraints by the security forces in the Bajura clash prevented a serious accident from occurring, said the Home Ministry. A man was killed in a police firing at Triveni Municipality-7 in the Bajura district on Sunday.

A man was killed when the police opened fire to contain a tense situation that followed a clash between the police and local people, said Home Secretary Binod Prakash Singh, adding that the clash flared up when a group of people tried to capture filled ballot boxes. Sanjib Aidi died on the spot. Some others including police personnel were injured in the incident, it has been said.

"We have received the information that a group of people tried to take filled ballot boxes after encircling police personnel and election officials. The incident took place when the police tried to take the situation under control," he said, adding that what happened would come out after investigations.

It has been informed that voting was postponed due to some untoward incidents in some places in Bajura and Surkhet, he said. However, voting concluded peacefully in other areas in the districts, and detailed information was awaited, he said. A team of the Nepal Army has been sent to the incident site, said the Ministry.

Meanwhile, assistant Chief District Officer, Bajura, Lokendra Bahadur Bista said two people injured in the firing were transported on a helicopter to Surkhet.
