RSS with Lawmaker: Tiwari on Parliamentary Practice

 "We are striving to enter the prime and contemporary issues of the country to consistent parliamentary deliberations. But, we are not offered adequate time to speak up. No responses are made to the queries raised on the issues. The existing practice of the House is like a drama rehearsal".

Talking to RSS for 'RSS with lawmaker'. leader of Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Laxmi Tiwari commented that all the activities taking place in the parliament now are like drama rehearsal meant for eating up national coffers. Tiwari noted that one million rupees from the state coffer is being spent in the name of the House session which she said was a waste of public purse.

Regarding the ongoing session of the parliament, she said, "If there is good intent we do not need to raise questions. There is no culture to listen to the queries raised in the session. Session does not take place consistently which also impedes us in reaching our constituency in the gap. No business is given to the parliament for months".

Lawmaker Tiwari said the RSP that has entered into the parliament taking up the issue of good governance and anti-corruption as main political agenda is not satisfied with the government performance and current practices in the House.

She has been engaged in social campaigns of community development, public awareness, human rights and women rights for the past 15 years. She has been in the advocacy for the legal arrangement of granting citizenship certificates in the name of mother. Now she is in the place where laws are made.

Stressing the need of implementation of the constitutional and legal provisions of the country, she said, "Framing new laws and amending the existing laws can be made based on the complexities facing by the citizens from different caste, language, religion and community while implementing the existing laws. Let us first lay emphasis on executing the existing laws".

She expressed displeasure over the breach of natural process to allow the parliamentary committees to adequately discuss any bills tabled in the parliament. "Necessary discussion and debate has not been held while framing new laws", she commented.

Claiming that RSP lawmakers have been emphatically raising the issues related to nation, nationality and public welfare, Tiwari said it was the state responsibility to address the public concerns they have been raising in the parliament.

Realising that they might have also made mistakes as novice lawmakers, she said they would continue to learn and enrich their experience in parliament.

As a representative of the people, lawmaker Tiwari said she would consistently raise the issues of social concerns, human rights, women rights and justice.

"Though the constitution has enshrined positive provisions for women's rights and entitlements, its lax implementation has not benefited the beneficiaries", she argued.

Noting that the present education policy of the country was not appropriate, she said the state mechanism has been encouraging youths to go abroad.

Lawmaker Tiwari further said the new parties got opportunity and space in politics with the people's desire for change. She went on saying that the experience of the old generation and enthusiasm of the new generation should be amalgamated to frame proper laws and take the country ahead. ---
