Govt serious about cybercrime control: Minister Karki

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has said that the government is serious about managing cyber security and controlling cybercrime.

Responding to questions raised in today's meeting of the House of Representatives on the discussion of the Ministry of Communications under the Appropriation Bill, 2079 BS, the Spokesperson of the Government of Nepal Karki expressed the commitment to make timely amendments to the Information Technology Act.

He also said that a separate budget has been allocated for the effective implementation of the Digital Nepal Framework and expansion of the capacity of the data centre at Singha Durbar and the establishment of the new data centre at Khumaltar and other places in Lalitpur.

On the occasion, Minister Karki shared that the capacity-building training program for journalists working in remote areas has been continued and the process of providing accidental insurance coverage up to Rs. 700,000 for working journalists has been started.

The Ministry has intensified the work of telecommunication infrastructure expansion. An integrated office management system was being set up to implement the concept of paperless government and the system would be implemented in all central level bodies within the next fiscal year.

He also clarified that the budget of the Ministry of Communications is aimed at strengthening the overall communication sector, expanding and use of information and timely improvement of the postal service.
