Minister Basnet encourages use of electric vehicles

Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Shakti Basnet has said that the maximum use of electric vehicles is not only beneficial from an economic point of view but also to protect the environment and reduce the negative impact of climate change.

Speaking at a workshop organized on Tuesday on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the Society of Electrical Engineers Nepal (SEEN), he said water resources are the most important natural resource of Nepal and the country would leap in economic development if its production and consumption could be increased.

Although it is a matter of priority for the government to solve various challenges including the necessary policies and regulations for use of e-vehicles, he said the prosperity of the country will be ensured through joint initiatives of all sectors.

On the occasion, the Executive Director of Sustainable Clean Energy Pvt. Ltd, Rajan Rayamajhi, President of SEEN, Dilli Ratna Shakya, Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Dinesh Kumar Ghimire also pointed out the need to promote the use of electric appliances and vehicles to increase domestic consumption of electricity.
