Minister of Energy Pampha Bhusal, Minister of Education Devendra Poudel and others are jointly inaugurating an electric scooter built by the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) in collaboration with the Lumbini state government this afternoon.

According to Rabindra Dhakal, Head of the Technology Faculty of NAST and Head of the Electric Scooter Manufacturing Program, the model scooters suitable for Nepal have been manufactured at a time when prices of petroleum products are increasing tremendously.

The scooter is equipped with a two kilowatts capacity lithium ion battery. The battery capacity can also be increased. The current scooter can travel up to 50 kilometers on a single charge.

Dhakal informed that more than three lakh rupees have been spent to make the model scooter. He estimates that electric scooters can be made in Nepal for a minimum of Rs 150,000 to Rs 200,000 when it comes to mass production.

Similarly, NAST is conducting a feasibility study in collaboration with the Lumbini state government on what kind of technical and financial preparations should be made while setting up a factory in Nepal.
