India has allowed the export of non-basmati white rice to the tune of 75,000 tonnes to the UAE.

Global prices for food commodities like rice and vegetable oil have risen for the first time in months after Russia pulled out of a wartime agreement.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has encouraged India to remove restrictions on the export of a certain category of rice.

The central government on Thursday amended the rice export norms putting the non-basmati white rice in "prohibited" category.
