Door opens for formal dialogue with India on border issue: Minister Gyawali

Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali has said that the visit by the Indian Foreign Secretary to Nepal has broken the ice in strained Nepal-India relations.

Foreign Minister Gyawali, who was present at the meeting of the International Relations Committee under the House of Representatives on Friday, said that the door of a formal dialogue with India was open with the visit of the Indian Foreign Secretary.

He said that the border issue has been raised as a formal agenda during the Foreign Secretary’s visit to Nepal and it was also mentioned in the press release.

Minister Gyawali also said that this has paved the way for discussion on all issues including the border dispute between Nepal and India.

Minister Gyawali informed that a secretary-level meeting of the two countries is being prepared to discuss the border issue.

Minister Gyawali also said that preparations were underway to hold a meeting of the joint commission comprising foreign ministers of the two countries.

Foreign Minister Gyawali claims that steps have been taken to resolve the problems in Nepal-India relations through talks and strengthen ties.
