Political campaigns launch for local elections

Political parties and candidates are on the campaign trail.

With the announcement of local elections on April 12, party activities have been brought to a head. The work of forming committees of political parties is in full swing in districts, regions, provinces, municipalities and wards.

The major parties of the district have gathered in the tolls to form a committee and have started an election-centric campaign. CPN (UML) Chitwan is running a campaign called UML in Toltol, UML in every house, CPN-UML in the happiness and sorrow of the people.

The campaign has been started from March 6. According to district chairman Ram Prasad Neupane, more than 200 toll committees have been formed. Work is also being done to form committees of the remaining people's organizations at the ward level. He informed that the door-to-door campaign has been continued.

The ward level has also been instructed to compile a list of potential candidates. Neupane informed that out of the 25,000 organized members of UML in the district, 20,000 have been renewed. "We are campaigning at the village level," he said.

The newly elected committee of the Nepali Congress has also started the campaign. A door-to-door campaign has been launched to win the Congress. According to District Secretary Dhruvaraj Pokhrel, programs have been organized at district level and regional level. Today's meeting of the district committee is preparing to depute two district level representatives in 98 wards.

 Toll-to-toll campaign will be carried out in the presence of these representatives. Stating that many toll committees have been formed, he said that the remaining committees will be formed. He informed that the election has been focused by forming committees of fraternal organizations including the party. He said, "We are campaigning for the dominance of the Congress at the local level in the upcoming election." Nepali Congress Chitwan has 28,000 active members.

The CPN (Maoist Center) has started an election-centric campaign. District Chairman Yama Bahadur Pariyar said that committees have been formed in all the places except one place up to the toll level. He said that a committee is being formed at the lower level of the people's organization. Pariyar said that he was focused on forming a front and holding a conference.

 He informed that a meeting of the district committee has been held this week and the party has started reaching out to Toltol with the campaign called 'Toll-Toll' and 'Maoist from house to house'. He said that there were 25,000 organized members of the Maoist center in the district.

 The Rastriya Prajatantra Party has also intensified its election campaign. Chetnath Wagle, senior vice-chairman of the district, informed that the ward office is being opened with the entry of the party. He said that work is being done to make the party election-centric by forming committees and establishing offices along with the party. Bagle informed that there are 9,000 active members of RPP in the district.

In the last local election, the CPN (UML) had won 57 out of 98 wards in the district. The Nepali Congress had won 35 seats and the UCPN (Maoist) had won six. In Ratnanagar, Kalika, Khairhani and Rapti municipalities, the CPN-UML had won both the chief and deputy chief. In Bharatpur Metropolitan City, the Maoist center had won the chief and the Congress had won the deputy chief. In Madi municipality, the UCPN (M) had won the chief and the CPN (UML) had won the deputy chief. In Ichchakamana village municipality, both the Nepali Congress had won the chairmanship and vice-chairmanship. There were 313,000 voters in the district at that time. Now this number has increased to three lakh 99 thousand 871.
